AND YOU HAVE A SPECIAL GUEST, A SPECIAL GUEST LECTURER. WHO IS THIS GOING TO BE? IT IS DARRYL STRAWBERRY WHO IS A MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL LEGEND. BUT ALSO A TWO TIME COLON CANCER SURVIVOR, WHICH WHICH IS SOMETHING A LOT OF PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT. IS THAT A FOCUS OF THIS LECTURESHIP? COLON CANCER. COLON COLORECTAL CANCER IS THE FOCUS OF THIS LECTURESHIP. OKAY. WHY DID YOU PICK THAT SPECIFIC CANCER? WELL, SPECIFICALLY, YOU KNOW, IT IS A IT’S A CANCER THAT’S THE THIRD MOST COMMON CANCER DIAGNOSED IN THE U.S. OVER 150, 50,000 PEOPLE EACH YEAR ARE DIAGNOSED WITH COLORECTAL CANCER. OVER 50,000 PEOPLE DIE EACH YEAR OF COLORECTAL CANCER AND IS A CANCER THAT IS OVER 90% PREVENTABLE. SO REALLY IMPORTANT TO RAISE AWARENESS AND TO GET YOUR SCREENINGS ON TIME. REALLY YOUNG AND THEN WENT THROUGH THE TREATMENT AND THEN TWO YEARS LATER HAD A RELAPSE. AND HE’S GOING TO TELL HIS STORY OF SURVIVORSHIP. BUT BUT FROM MY PART I’M GOING TO DISCUSS SCREENING STATE OF THE ART SCREENING, NEW SCREENING TESTS SUCH AS BLOOD TESTS. THERE’S A GARDEN IS COMING OUT. COME OUT WITH SOMETHING CALLED THE SHIELD TEST, WHICH IS JUST A BLOOD TEST THAT YOU CAN GET. OKAY. SO WE’LL TALK ABOUT PROS AND CONS OF ALL OF THOSE. The Gail Klein Garlove Lectureship is returning to Louisville, hosted by Norton Healthcare.It’s happening at The Olmsted on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m.The event invites physicians and scientists presenting research along with community people and celebrities raising cancer awareness.This year’s event will focus on colon cancer.Major League Baseball legend Darryl Strawberry will be the keynote speaker for the event. He is a two-time colon cancer survivor and will be sharing his story.The event will give people a chance to hear about current treatments, clinical trials and advancements in the detection and treatment of colon cancer.There are no more tickets available to attend the event in person, but the lectureship will be available as a Zoom conference online.
